Historically, bequests have been a vital source of support for the League and have played a significant role in allowing the school to thrive for more than 150 years. New bequests help ensure that the League will continue to serve artists through the 21st century and beyond.

Why leave a legacy?

A planned gift is a powerful way to support the League’s mission beyond your lifetime. Your generosity helps us keep tuition affordable, offer scholarships to deserving students, and ensure that our studios remain a vibrant and inclusive space for artists of all levels.

How to make a planned gift

Establish a bequest in your will or living trust

You can designate the Art Students League as a beneficiary in your will or trust with one of the following options:

  • A specific dollar amount
  • A percentage of your estate
  • A residual amount after other obligations are met
  • A residual amount after other obligations are met

Sample language for your will:

"I give [dollar amount/percentage/specific asset] to the Art Students League of New York, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located at 215 West 57th Street, New York, NY 10019, Federal Tax ID #13-1844837, for its general purposes."

Name a beneficiary of your retirement accounts

Name the Art Students League as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other retirement accounts. This is often a tax-efficient way to make a gift, as retirement assets left to a nonprofit are not subject to income tax.

Name a beneficiary of your life insurance policy

You can designate the League as a full or partial beneficiary of a life insurance policy you no longer need.

Other options

We’re happy to work with you and your advisors to explore charitable remainder trusts, donor-advised funds, or gifts of appreciated securities
