Mixed Media, Collage, Painting, and Dimensional Art

The standing premise in this class is that there are no fixed rules or ‘shoulds’ in the creative process. As art-making is an individually unique and personal endeavor, the starting point for instruction will be each individual student’s visual preferences and materials. In one-on-one conversations, students will be guided toward making those clear choices that will help them to gain focus and clarity of expression in their work. Class discussions, readings and demonstrations may occasionally take place.

Combined Media, Assemblage, Art in Three Dimensions

"I believe in critical and open dialogue between the Artist Instructor and each particular student. I am opposed to all standardized systems and approaches: "basic", "fundamental" or otherwise. The idea is to gain the understanding, discipline, and freedom essential to the particular individual, to gain aesthetic expression of utter distinction, clarity and quality.

Conceptual Painting, Ideas and Art Making in 2D & 3D

In our studio we will focus on the concepts behind your art making. Ideas come from everywhere, some are purely aesthetic, some are process-oriented, some are socio-political. Wherever your ideas come from, we must consider the concepts behind them. How is "concept" integral to the making and understanding of the piece? With a focus on artistic intent, we will work together to bring forward your most thought-provoking work.
