Home to nearly 6,000 volumes, the Art Students League's library is an eclectic reference collection formed at the school's inception and expanded over generations, enriched by artist donations — including books from the personal libraries of instructors Harry Sternberg, Julian Levi, and Robert Philipp. More an artist's library than an art library, the collection is particularly strong in instructional texts and materials guides typically found only in select university and art school libraries, as well as books by and about League artists.
Located between the second and third floors and accessible via the main stairwell, the library is open to League students, members, and instructors. Researchers are welcome by appointment.
