Learn about the Art Students League of New York, its classes, and programs which support comics artists and illustrators. This event will begin with an intro session, followed by a short tour through the building. The tour will end with an exhibition reception in our main gallery, where you’ll be able to meet artists in the Comics and Narrative Arts program while sipping drinks, enjoying finger foods, and browsing artwork created in our classes.

Level up your figure drawing with modern master John Varriano, who will guide you through a drawing session with a live art model. Learn the importance of gesture, proportion, anatomy, and more with this free class which will provide an overview of fundamental skills for comics and narrative art. Bring a sketchbook and drawing materials.

Join award-winning comics creators Tradd Moore (Doctor Strange: Fall Sunrise), Kenny Wroten (Everyone Sux But You), Rosemary Valero-O’Connell (Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me), and James Tynion IV (Batman, Something Is Killing the Children) in this spotlight panel about the secret sauce of the creative process. Moderated by Andrew Drilon (Aquaman, Secret Heart Attack), this live discussion will dive into personal inspirations, idea sharing, balancing deadlines and social life, learning to grow together, and more. The discussion will be a practical guide for artists interested in strengthening their comics work with care, attention to craft, and the support of an artistic community.

Learn essential skills for drawing scenes that feel like places. This special session with designer and visual storyteller Charles Houghton gives you freehand perspective shortcuts you can apply to comics and illustration. Learn where perspective and shot design overlap to make every panel’s storytelling hit harder. This session includes a lecture, a hands-on sketchbook session, and an open Q&A. Bring a sketchbook and drawing materials. No rulers required.

A creative powerhouse who has inspired artists everywhere, Alex Toth's impact in the field of comics and animation cannot be overstated. Join us for a special online discussion with distinguished guests Paul Fricke, Ruben Procopio, Paul Rivoche, and Mark Stanleigh on why Toth is considered an artist's artist and creative master to this very day. This talk is presented by the Art Students League of New York, the legendary art school which Toth attended in his youth.

Enjoy this daylong comic con featuring big stars from the indie comics scene as well as portfolio reviews, an art contest, and free panel events on the comics craft. Our main gallery will host over 2 dozen exhibitors — Josh Cornillon, Radhia Rahman, Kenny Wong, and many more — plus offerings from our current Certificate in Comics & Narrative Arts students. Come to Studio 1-2 for art discussions with pros like Tradd Moore, Mahdi Khene, and more!
