Explore the over three-decade career of League alumna Pacita Abad (b. Philippines,1946–2004) with Victoria Sung, curator of the artist’s first retrospective at the Walker Art Center, on view April 15 – September 3, 2023. Best known for her trapuntos, a form of quilted painting made by stitching and stuffing her canvases as opposed to stretching them over a wood frame, Abad used her artwork to address her feminist, transnational concerns in ways that continue to reverberate with artists and audiences today.

Special thanks to the Tina Kim Gallery for support of this program. The Tina Kim Gallery presents their own exhibition of works by Pacita Abad, Colors of My Dream, May 18 – June 17.
