Amy Wong, Untitled, 2019, acrylic on canvas, 24 x 20 inches.

This ongoing partnership between Nordstrom Local and League at Large features two works by League student Amy Wong, solicited through an open call. The two vibrant works merge the calligraphy of the East with the interaction of color harmony and color contrast of the West in a lyrical abstract style.

Amy Wong, originally from Hong Kong, came to the United States for her college education. Her abstract paintings are inspired by landscapes and always includes the same 6 characters, from a poem Wong used to recite as a child. She uses the canvas as a platform to express her philosophical belief that human nature is initially benevolent and compassionate—a belief that is extremely needed in the challenging time we’re in, as we continue to navigate through the COVID pandemic.

League at Large is a program that showcases the work of League artists in public venues outside of the League in order to increase exposure to and appreciation of their work. In this partnership, League at Large will be presenting the work of League artists at various Nordstrom Local locations throughout the city.
