150 Years: The Abstract Expressionists brings together works from the collection to celebrate the Abstract Expressionist movement and its roots at the Art Students League of New York. This exhibition highlights how the League's unique structure lent itself to being the home of this impactful movement. Pivotal instructors such as Hans Hoffmann and Vaclav Vytlacil challenged their students to push the boundaries of abstraction into something unique to the American experience.Artists featured in this exhibition include Perle Fine, George McNeil, Louise Nevelson, Theodoros Stamos, and Jack Tworkov.
This exhibition will be presented in tandem with a lecture about Abstract Expressionists at the League in the fall (details to come).
