Student Recruiter

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Student Recruiter acts as a bridge between prospective students and the League. The primary mission is to identify, engage, and enroll talented artists at all stages of their development. The recruiter will act as an ambassador for the League to develop relationships and partnerships with youth and adult organizations as well as middle schools, high schools, and colleges/universities, with the goal of encouraging visits and student recruitment at the League. This role will plan visits to local schools (NYC and Tri-State area) and events that may include demonstrations and involve partnering with selected instructors of the League.

In this capacity, the Student Recruiter will partner with the Provost and the Directors of the Academic Affairs, Certificate programs, and Youth/Community program areas to execute a strategic recruiting plan. In addition to executing the plan, the recruiter will have primary responsibility for collecting, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting student recruitment and retention data.

This position will be responsible for providing advising information to potential students to help them navigate options for children’s, teen, and adult classes as they consider the various stages of their creative development.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Outreach & Travel

  • Developing partnerships between the League and NYC and Tri-State school systems. Frequently traveling to middle schools, high schools, and colleges to speak to groups and individual students and meeting with appropriate school representatives and teachers to promote outreach activities and provide an awareness of the Art Students League.
  • Promote programs through presentations, classroom visits, demonstrations, and collaborative events with instructional staff.
  • Planning and leading Open Houses at the League, including coordinating instructor participation and tracking enrollments of open house attendees and conversion to enrollment.
  • Arranging visits from prospective students and parents in conjunction with the open house schedule and in response to inquiries.

Relationship Management:

  • Building long-term connections with high school art teachers, guidance counselors, and community leaders to create a pipeline of qualified applicants.
  • Working in tandem with PDSO to contact embassies to assist in bringing international students to the U.S. to expand the international certificate student program as well as expanding enrollment in the Veterans Program.

Student Advising

  • Guiding prospective students and their families through the admissions and enrollment process.

Event Planning

  • Organizing on-campus open houses, virtual webinars, and local recruitment events like gallery tours or workshops.

Data & Analytics

  • Using CRM system to track prospect engagement and meet specific enrollment targets.

Strategy and Planning

  • Developing student recruitment and retention plans, strategies, and written materials in partnership with the Marketing department as well as Programming, Youth/Community Programs (Seeds) as well as Certificate Programs.
    • Creating an annual schedule for visits and contacts at each location.
    • Analyzing trends in recruitment and retention programs.
    • Working with Provost to support and promote any MOUs

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicating the League's commitment to DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access)
  • Responding to inquiries from students

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5+ years’ experience in an educational institution, art school, or similar organization
  • Excellent written, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a larger, coordinated team
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.A. or BFA in art, art history or related field; MFA preferred
  • Studio Art, Education, Gallery, Museum, and/or Art School experience a strong plus
  • Knowledge of CRM systems a plus
  • Experience with education/school organization, coordination, and student recruitment

The Art Students League of New York was founded in 1875 and remains an institution run by artists in support of artists. The League fulfills its mission by offering accessible, affordable, high-quality education and instruction in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, metal work and mixed media in the context of an Atelier system. There are no entrance requirements, degrees or set curriculum. Students come for a hands-on studio education accessible to anyone who truly aspires to develop as an artist, whether they seek to pursue a profession in the fine arts or are just beginning their artistic journey.
