POSITION SUMMARY
The GRAPHIC DESIGNER reports to the DIRECTOR OF MARKETING and is responsible for the layout, design, and project management for a variety of design deliverables, including print and digital (e.g., posters, catalogs, mailers, ad units, graphics for use in web, email, and social media). Candidates must be able to manage the execution of graphic design projects from concept to delivery, and should be adept at navigating competing priorities, tracking deadlines, and working directly with stakeholders to receive feedback and ensure successful delivery of completed projects.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop impactful creative concepts across multiple print and digital projects.
- Design graphics that meet the needs of multiple department stakeholders.
- Manage the full creative process from concept through completion, under the guidance of the Director of Marketing.
- Partner cross-departmentally, and with the Director of Marketing and Marketing Manager, to ensure deliverables are done on time and budget.
- Develop graphic design solutions that address the needs of multiple departments across the organization, including Marketing, Development, Curatorial, and Editorial. Projects include (but are not limited to) poster and brochure design, mailings and invitations, ad units (print and digital), graphics for use in web, email marketing, and on social media, merchandise and brand application design, graphics for video projects, book and catalog design, event collateral, presentations, web design layouts.
- Help plan, streamline, and optimize the creative process.
- Work across the organization to teach and inform other teams and departments about brand guidelines and best practices, providing templates as needed to streamline the design process.
- Partner with external agencies to help steer the creative direction of major projects, campaigns, and initiatives, under the guidance of the Director of Marketing
QUALIFICATIONS
Skills and Competencies
- Solid understanding of best practices for graphic design across different media.
- The ability to translate stakeholder strategy and mandatories into comprehensive design solutions.
- Mastery of industry-standard software used in graphic design, with the ability to create user-friendly templates that may be used by non-designer team members.
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for design.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while efficiently and effectively managing multiple projects, and collaborating on workflow management and creative direction with the rest of the Marketing team.
- Ability to address feedback from and build creative consensus with stakeholders across the organization including Marketing, Development, Curatorial, Editorial, and leadership.
- Ability to work with and lead other designers and/or external agency partners to supplement resources as needed.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills required.
- Ability to be proactive and work autonomously, while keeping stakeholders regularly informed about project statuses required.
- Ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment required.
- Familiarity with PowerPoint a plus.
- Ability to produce simple animated graphics a plus.
Experience
- 3 – 5 years of experience working in a graphic design position, preferably in an in-house Marketing team.
- Experience working in education, arts, or other cultural nonprofit organizations is a plus.
- Experience with, interest in, or exposure to studio artmaking is a plus.
EDUCATION
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- The salary for this position is $70,000 –75,000. In addition, this position is eligible for the League's full range of benefits, including health insurance and 401(k) plans, as well as other fringe benefits offered through the Art Students League of New York.
