What is the Certificate Program?
The Art Students League of New York is approved by New York State Division of Veterans’ Affairs to accept students who wish to use their Veterans Education Benefits. To be eligible to use your VA Education Benefits, students must be accepted to the full-time Certificate Program and submit their official acceptance letter and League Student ID number to the VA.
The Certificate Program allows veterans to immerse themselves in four years of study with a concentration in Painting, Sculpture, or Printmaking. Drawing, Comics and Narrative Arts, and Mixed Media classes are also available as secondary classes.
Certificate students work closely with mentor instructors to develop a curriculum that meets their needs and receive ongoing educational and professional development support
At the conclusion of the program, you will be able to exhibit a completed body of work in a group exhibition and will receive a certificate of completion.

Frequently Ask Questions
Can I use the G.I. Bill on month-to-month classes if I’m not in the Certificate Program but taking monthly classes?
In addition to our Certificate Program, our month-to-month online and in-person classes provide more flexibility for students who wish to build their own curriculum. Learn more about our Independent Track here.
No, but our month-to-month classes are the most inexpensive way to master your craft. The League is committed to keeping tuition and fees affordable for all students, by subsidizing the cost of all classes for all students, and offering needs and merit-based tuition relief.
Do I need previous training to apply for the Certificate Program?
The equivalent of one academic year (9 months) of studio art is sufficient for applying. Whether it was at an art center or university or with a private tutor, please submit documentation.
