Student Salons

The League’s annual Student Salons, previously known at the Student Concours, offer opportunities for students to exhibit their work—and for the public to view the work created in our studios. These exhibitions—both in the gallery and online—give students the opportunity to collaborate on curating and hanging their work. A tradition for more than a century, the League's Student Salon are viewed by thousands of visitors each year.

Submitting Your Work

Each class's work is on display in our gallery for one week. At the beginning of the Spring Session in January, your Instructor or class monitor will inform you on the date of your class's Student Salon and when work will need to be submitted. Each Instructor leads the curation and hanging of their class's exhibition and your Instructor will provide instructions or answer questions about how to submit your work.

Juried Selection

Every Student Salon exhibition is privately shown to an anonymous juror selected by your instructor. This juror awards individual student works one of two prizes—a red or blue dot. There is only one red dot winner in each class's exhibition. Following the Student Salons, the gallery hosts an annual Juried Selection exhibition, previously known as the Red Dot exhibition, which displays all of the works awarded a red dot that year.

Selling Your Work

Works displayed in the Student Salon are not for sale. If a buyer expresses interest in a work, gallery staff will contact the artist to confirm if they are comfortable being put in contact with the buyer directly.
