POSITION SUMMARY
The Sales Associate facilitates superior customer service by blending sales expertise, product knowledge, and customer relations. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, assisting customers, processing retail sales, and supporting the receiving process for goods.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist in merchandise set-ups and maintain the store as directed by management.
- Follow procedures for reporting low stock, inventory discrepancies, and customer product requests.
- Maintain a neat and clean work area, dusting and sweeping during shifts.
- Write notes to managers regarding item issues, prices, stock, and special requests.
- Learn and operate the store's Point-of-Sale (POS) system, handle money, and reconcile cash drawers.
- Provide visitors with takeaways such as business cards, literature, timelines, and catalogs.
Receiving Orders:
- Promptly remove deliveries from the street and hallway upon arrival.
- Unpack, reconcile packing slips, and stock deliveries between customer interactions.
- Organize back-stock and front-stock appropriately for ease of stocking.
- Promptly dispose of unpacking garbage in the designated area.
UNIQUE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS JOB
The Sales Associate is instrumental in servicing customers who take classes at the League. Becoming familiar with instructors' supply lists is essential and suggesting substitutions when certain items are unavailable is encouraged. Additional requirements include regular attendance and punctuality, weekend availability, maintaining a consistent positive attitude, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.Also necessary is the ability to climb a ladder and to stand for prolonged periods of time. Adherence to store and League work rules, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are crucial.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree(s) Required/Preferred: n/a
- Years of Experience Desired: 6 months – 1+ years’ experience working in a retail store, preferably an art supply store, desired.
- Industry or Product Knowledge: Knowledge of art supplies and their use a plus.
- Computer Experience: Basic computer competence required.
- Core Skills/Abilities Required: Working with the public, handling a POS system, handling money, and reconciling a cash draw, moving stock of 25-50 lbs., and being a team player.
STORE HOURS OF OPERATION
Fall to Spring (September – May): Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM –8:30 PM; Saturday and Sunday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
Summer: Closed on Sundays
SALES ASSOCIATE HOURS AND RATE OF PAY
- Shift Hours Required: Wednesday and Thursdayafternoon/evening shift. 2:30 PM - 8:45 PM
- Job Type: Part-time: 12.50 hrs. per week
- Hourly Rate of Pay: $18 per hr.
